‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ trailer: Elisabeth Moss could finally win Emmy for new Hulu series [WATCH]

Hulu just dropped the first trailer for “The Handmaid’s Tale,” its 10-part adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s 1985 novel about a woman struggling to survive in the totalitarian theocracy that has replaced the American government. This Canadian author’s dystopic vision of the future has already been adapted as a 1990 film, a 2000 radio play and a 2001 opera.

At the center of the story is Offred (Elisabeth Moss) one of the few fertile women remaining. We get glimpses of her past when she was in love and gave birth to a child. But she is then hunted down, separated from her family and forced into the sexual servitude of the Commander (Joseph Fiennes) and his wife Serena (Yvonne Strahovski).

The part is a plum one for Moss, who reaped six Emmy bids for her role as Peggy Olsen on “Mad Men.” She lost all of those, with five in lead (2009, 2011 – 2013, 2015) and one in supporting (2010). And in 2013, she also contended for her starring role in the limited series “Top of the Lake.”
