“It’s very different than the original” films, confirms Sterling K. Brown to Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming 2018 version of “The Predator.” Director Shane Black “has his whole take on it,” Brown adds in the interview. “It’s got a really wicked sense of humor to it, which I love about it. And it’s got a real camaraderie among the main characters that I think folks will be attracted to. That’s pretty much all I can say.”
“The Predator” is set in modern day and may not necessarily continue the story of the previous three solo “Predator” movies from 1987, 1990 and 2010. “I’m a huge fan of ‘Predator,'” Brown notes. “Of course, everybody loves Jesse the Body Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers and Bill Duke.” Joining Brown in the new film are Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Jacob Tremblay and Thomas Jane.
While Brown has appeared in movies before, like last year’s “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” alongside Tina Fey, he’s mostly known for his back-to-back television successes “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and “This Is Us.” Brown of course took home an Emmy last year for his role as prosecutor Chris Darden on the FX limited series, and now he’s my pick to win his second trophy for playing family man Randall on the NBC hit drama.
Also on the horizon for the busy Hollywood actor are his upcoming film roles in “Marshall” as Joseph Spell and “Black Panther” where he’s set to play N’Jobu. And Season 2 of “This Is Us,” for which Brown earned a SAG nomination for Best Drama Actor, will likely begin production later this summer.
