During Night 1 of “The Voice” Season 13 battle rounds, Chris Weaver and Kathrina Feigh of Team Jennifer Hudson performed Ariana Grande‘s “Dangerous Woman.” Adam Levine told Weaver that he’s “a force of nature that cannot be stopped,” Blake Shelton raved that Feigh “had the song by the throat,” while Miley Cyrus remarked that their voices were so powerful they drowned out the band. But what did their coach Hudson think? Watch Chris Weaver and Kathrina Feigh battle it out in “The Voice” video above.
The final decision came down to Hudson, who admitted, “It’s tough. I feel as though Kathrina, you held your own, honey. Your voice is huge. And then your presence that you came out with and you sold the moment? I take my hat off to you for that. And then there’s Chris. Now, what we call that type of voice here at JHud Productions is a freight train. It is kind of tough to battle against that, but I think [Kathrina] came out with your own freight train just the same. I’m proud of you both for that.”
“I hate this part so much, especially when I feel like everybody did what they were supposed to do,” Hudson said before declaring that Weaver was the winner of the battle. Just when Feigh thought she was out of the competition for good, Shelton shocked everybody by pushing his button, stealing her for his own team.
Weaver is 29 years old and currently resides in Hempstead, New York. Here is his official NBC bio: “Chris is a worship leader by day and a drag queen by night. He grew up singing in the church because his mom was a Pentecostal preacher, but being gay, he never quite felt he could express his true self until he discovered drag. His drag persona is a gorgeous sassy woman named Nedra Belle. He performs weekly at the West End Lounge, hosting and singing live. Two years ago he had the opportunity to sing for Jennifer Hudson at a party for her Broadway show “The Color Purple,” and she threw a shoe at him, which coming from their church background is the ultimate compliment.”
Feigh is 24 years old and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her official NBC bio states: “Born in the Philippines, Kathrina and her family moved to Los Angeles when she was nine years old. It was a huge culture shock for Kathrina, and she had a hard time understanding English. Music not only helped her cope, but also helped her learn a new language. In high school, she joined the drama club and from that moment on was hooked on performing. She continued performing in plays all throughout high school, and when it was time for college, decided to pursue a degree in musical theater instead of becoming a pharmacist like her parents envisioned. Today her parents are two of her biggest supporters out there and with a chair turn, Kathrina is hoping to show them that their American dream is coming true.”
