If Monday’s first round of battles on “The Voice” is any indication, Season 13 is turning into one of the most memorable in the show’s history. What will happen for Night 2 on Tuesday and which singers will be best and worst? Coaches Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton are pairing off their contestants in epic showdowns to determine which ones will be moving on to the knockouts next. Some will be eliminated, but others will be stolen and have extra chances to win the latest championship.
These battle rounds and many of the other non-live programs have already been recorded in advance of airing on NBC. Battle round advisors for each of the coaches are Joe Jonas (Team Adam), Rascal Flatts (Team Blake), Billy Ray Cyrus (Team Miley), and Kelly Rowland (Team Jennifer). The NBC blockbuster series continues into knockouts and live shows with an all-star live finale on December 19 to declare the Season 13 championship.
Based on the blind auditions the past three weeks, we have our power rankings for each team. Do you agree with our rankings best to worst for the 12 singers on Team Adam, Team Blake, Team Jennifer, and Team Miley?
Our exciting recap of Tuesday’s battle round starts below with our live blog. Sound off in the comments section below about the reality TV show’s favorite moments. Keep refreshing/reloading this page as we’ll be updating live.
8:00 p.m. – Who will give the most exciting performance in tonight’s battle round? It is always interesting to see which artists are able to pull off a steal. I don’t think the coaches always get it right. Meagan McNeal was a disappointing loss from the show on night one, let’s hope they don’t let another great singer get away tonight!
8:07 p.m. – Davon Fleming and Maharasyi from team J-Hud are up first. Davon immediately burst into tears from just being in the presence of Kelly and Jennifer. Davon calls Whitney Houston his second mother, so the fact that Jennifer chose “I’m Your Baby Tonight” for this pairing has to boost his confidence. Kelly said she auditioned for Destiny’s Child with this song.
8:11 p.m. – Davon has to reign it in a bit. He’s singing all over the song and not making any room for Maharasyi. He’s clearly the favorite in this battle, he doesn’t need to overdo it. In the band rehearsal, Jennifer felt they weren’t blending well. Kelly knows a thing or two about harmonizing and gave them some valuable lessons.
8:18 p.m. – I’m loving Maharasyi’s yellow dress, and so is Miley. She looks gorge! I’m not loving this performance though. This song should allow them to show their ability to perform, but both are just moseying around the stage. Davon is the superior, more fluid vocalist by far. But I’m not blown away. The judges didn’t seem to be either, mostly just nodding and giving moderate applause.
8:21 p.m. – Adam favored Davon in this battle and Blake had kind words for Maharasyi. But, the decision is Jennifer’s. And she chose Davon! No surprise there. Davon has all the tools to be a great performer, but as a Whitney fan myself, I know the great ones know when to reign it in and when to show all their cards. For as great as he is vocally, I’m not sure how long he can last on this series. Nobody chose to steal Maharasyi.
8:30 p.m. – The night’s second battle has pitted Hannah Mrozak against Brandon Showell on Team Adam. Both of these artists seem versatile but leaned toward the pop genre in their blind auditions. Hannah is girl-crushing over Joe Jonas, hopefully it doesn’t distract her too much. Adam only has two women on his team so I have to think Hannah has the edge here, but she will have to deliver to seal the deal.
8:33 p.m. – Going into the commercial break we see Blake’s upcoming battle between Dennis Drummond and Mitchell Lee. They basically give away the fact that Adam steals the eventual loser. Why do they do this? Do they think spoiling the most fun aspect of the battle rounds will help keep viewers? I hate it. Just my own little rant.
8:40 p.m. – Okay, back to Hannah and Brandon. Hannah kicks off the performance “Cold Water” with a warm and pleasant tone. Brandon comes in a little off key. Nerves? Once they hit the harmonies they both sound better. On his second verse Brandon sounds better, but Hannah’s tone wins this battle for me. Overall, it was one of the weakest performances thus far. Blake said he would go with Hannah but Jennifer said she would roll with Brandon. The winner of this battle is Hannah! Brandon didn’t do enough to secure a steal.
8:46 p.m. – Going into the commercial break we were shown clips of three battles the editing team left on the cutting room floor. On Team Adam, Dylan Gerard took down Dave Crosby. Team Blake’s Esera Tuaolo bested Rebecca Brunner. And over on Team Miley, Chloe Kohanski sent Ilianna Viramontes packing. Hopefully the winners here get more airtime during the knockout round.
8:50 p.m. – It’s finally time for the battle between Dennis and Mitchell that I referenced earlier. Knowing both will be safe at the end makes this super suspenseful. Sarcasm aside, this is an interesting pair. Dennis is such an oddball, while Mitchell is the status quo in terms of a standard, attractive front-man. Blake takes issue with Mitchell’s enunciation problems, while he told Dennis he needs to show the confidence of a lead singer. I predict Blake will choose the more unique artist in Dennis. Adam is always happy to steal anyone he thinks will get be popular, even if they’re boring. Let’s see if I’m right.
8:59 p.m. – “Mr. Jones” is a great song for this pair of guitar players to jam on. Off the bat, I’ll concede Mitchell is more interesting to watch on stage than I gave him credit for. He clearly has charisma and stage presence that could take him far in the competition. Miley mentions Dennis’ footwork as he plays guitar, which I found entertaining as well. I have to say, despite my snarky comment about him earlier, I would choose Mitchell as the winner of this battle. Jennifer and Miley both said they would choose Mitchell as the winner. Adam said Mitchell is more in Blake’s wheelhouse, but he loved Dennis. I was COMPLETELY off in my prediction! Blake chose Mitchell as the winner. As I eat crow, Adam steals Dennis. I hope he brings him out of his shell, Dennis could be a fun one to watch!
9:00 p.m. – Get ready for a double-steal showdown between Adam and J-Hud next week! Who will come out victorious? And which artist are they both fighting for? Find out during the conclusion of the battles next Monday and Tuesday on NBC.
