‘The Voice’ blind audition: Teen Dawson Coyle shows passion singing ‘Happiness’ [WATCH]

Who was the final person to join Team Blake Shelton for Season 12 of “The Voice”? Young teen Dawson Coyle was the choice of the five-time winning coach and said he was a great pick because of the “passion” he showed singing the NEEDTOBREATHE contemporary Christian tune “Happiness” (watch above). Our writer John Benutty discusses the six artists from this latest episode with his power rankings for the blind auditions. Regarding Coyle, a 17-year-old New Jersey native, he says: “Dawson has a pop rock style that feels very current and the judges connected with the passion and personal connection they felt from him through the performance. Blake was the only coach to turn around and lucky for him because Dawson completes Team Blake.”

The NBC bio for Coyle offers more details about his life and career: “Dawson grew up taking various lessons at a local church, where he became hooked on the guitar. Although he was no good, he was drawn to singing. Singing calms his Tourette syndrome, which manifests with various physical tics. Singing has also given him the confidence to perform professionally for the past two years. His family’s home recently burned down and they have been living with his grandparents. His parents are going to go on the road with him and see where music takes them.”
