‘The Voice’ blind audition: Total showman Kawan DeBose is tops with ‘Let’s Get It On’ [WATCH]

Who was the best artist on Monday’s episode of “The Voice” for the newly-launched Season 12? Our writer John Benutty discusses the 11 artists with his power rankings for these blind auditions. His top choice is Kawan DeBose, a 30-year-old Florida native who performed the Marvin Gaye classic hit “Let’s Get It On.” He says: “Kawan is a total showman. You can tell he’s comfortable on stage and likes to perform for an audience. His soulful, crowd-pleasing performance earned turns Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine. Rival coach Alicia Keys then fought hard to get Kawan to choose Adam. And that’s just what he did. I feel like it’s a great match, and Adam is going to let Kawan be the entertainer he is ready to be.”

For one of the best singers for this season, here is his official NBC bio: “Kawan taught himself to play piano at a young age. He attended the Tajiri School of Performing Arts, where he learned opera, musical theater and the art of performing. He moved to Miami after high school and opened for Mary J. Blige, John Legend and Ludacris at a Florida jazz festival. In 2012, he became the musical director of a church in San Diego, but he realized he could not break into music without moving to Los Angeles. He has since played in jazz bars and for various celebrities.”
