During Night 5 of “The Voice” Season 13, Brandon Brown‘s performance of Ray Charles‘s “Georgia on My Mind” prompted new coach Jennifer Hudson to pull out all the stops to try to get him to join her team. She sang, she pleaded, she tried to make a connection. But in the end, Hudson’s mouth shot open in shock when Brown instead went with Adam Levine. “That sound, that’s special,” Hudson told the young singer after his knock-out performance. “You see how passionate I am about it? Does [Adam] look passionate to you?” Hudson tried to make the point that Levine and Blake Shelton are boring picks and that she’s the fresh new option who’s coming off her victory with “The Voice” U.K.
“They do this every season, if you ain’t noticed,” she added. “[Adam]’s gonna lay across the thing, [Blake]’s gonna point at himself and go, ‘Pick me.'” But it was all for naught, as Hudson seemed visibly shocked when Brown decided to join Team Adam. Did he make the right choice?
Brown is 19 years old and currently resides in Bronx, New York. Here is his official NBC bio: “Brandon is a volunteer violin and voice instructor at Harlem School of the Arts (HSA), where he first started as a student when he was 15 years old. As a teen, taking piano, violin and voice classes at HSA helped him gain confidence in both music and life, and he loves to give back to the current students. The Voice’s own Wé McDonald, also a member of HSA, has helped Brandon, inspiring him to follow his dream by auditioning for the show. Throughout his musical journey, his mom has been his main support system. He attributes all of his success to her, as she has always allowed him to explore his creative side. Brandon does not have plans to go to college and The Voice is his opportunity to become the best artist he can be.”
