During Night 6 of “The Voice” Season 13, Michael Kight‘s performance of Maroon 5‘s “Sugar” impressed Adam Levine so much that he turned his chair around. In fact, Levine was the only coach to press his button, with Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus all remaining still. Watch Michael Kight’s “The Voice” blind audition video above.
“Great song, by the way. Good choice,” Levine joked after it was clear the high-pitched singer would be joining Team Adam by default. “It’s really hard when someone does your song. The chips are stacked against you because I know it so well. What you were doing was a cool, interesting take on the song.” Levine later added, “It’s a hard song, and he’s doing it stripped down so you can’t hide behind anything. I’m super excited, man. I think you did a great job.”
Kight is 25 years old and currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Here is his official NBC bio: “Michael grew up in a Southern household and is a soul/R&B artist. His father raised him on Motown, Lionel Richie, the Commodores, Elvis and Johnny Cash, and bought him a guitar when he was 12. Michael, who is a big fan of Maroon 5 since the album Songs About Jane, moved to Nashville where he became well-known playing guitar and singing back-up vocals for other artists. After several years of being a sideman, Michael is ready to begin his career as a front man and he hopes to do it on The Voice.”
