Teenager Aliyah Moulden has defied expectations all throughout Season 12 of “The Voice,” but she’s still standing and could be declared the champion on Tuesday. For Monday’s live finale, she performed the 1970s throwback tune “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” to a huge audience response in the studio (watch her performance on the video above). Her coach Blake Shelton has already won five times, ahead of coach Adam Levine, who has been victorious on the reality program three times. Rival Alicia Keys is hoping to triumph for the first time.
In his rankings for Monday’s program, our writer Denton Davidson says the following about Aliyah: “Aliyah’s last performance was a fun song but one that has been so overdone in singing competitions. Performing a song that is over 45 years old did nothing to propel this young singer forward. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks Blake gave her this throwaway to ensure she wouldn’t threaten Lauren Duski’s chance to win.”
According to her NBC bio: “Aliyah is being raised solely by her mother since her father passed away from lung cancer when she was only one month old. Music helped Aliyah find herself in high school, and her mother signed her up for vocal lessons. She has opened for Caroline Sunshine, Todrick Hall and Jesse McCartney. This past summer, she sang in the BET Experience at the L.A. Convention Center.”
