Will Tuesday night be the coronation of Chris Blue as the Season 12 champion of “The Voice”? He performed three times on Monday’s live finale, but it was his creative rendition of the 1980s hit song “Rhythm Nation” that was highlight (watch his performance on the video above). His coach Alicia Keys is trying to win the reality-competition program before exiting to make room for new coaches. Will Alicia be able to defeat five-time champ Blake Shelton and three-time winner Adam Levine for this season’s championship?
In his rankings for Monday’s program, our writer Denton Davidson says the following about Chris: “When I heard Chris would be performing Janet Jackson’s ‘Rhythm Nation’ for his final performance, I was immediately skeptical of what was to come. What would a bombastic soul singer do with a soft-spoken pop diva’s classic? The answer was to simply create my favorite performance of the night. Unleashing his signature vocals along with his dance skills, Chris proved he could handle an iconic song and deliver a choreographed routine unlike anything we’ve seen on ‘The Voice.’ It was a swan song of epic proportions that concluded his exciting run on the series.”
According to his NBC bio: “Chris grew up in a family of seven in a tiny house. His mother decided to put the family in a band called the Blue Family, where they sang at local churches. It later became the Blue Brothers and they performed across the Midwest and later at the Bobby Jones Gospel show on BET. After high school, Chris worked various jobs and even attempted to go back to school. For the past six years, he has worked as a worship leader. During this time, he met his fiancée, Stephanie, who is from England. They have been in a long-distance relationship ever since. She’s been battling bone marrow cancer for most of her life and flatlined during surgery recently. It’s hard on Chris, who has been struggling with not being there through the hard times.”
