The two-night “The Voice” Season 13 finale began Monday night on NBC, with pop/soul artist Brooke Simpson representing Team Miley Cyrus. Each of the four finalists performed duets with their coaches, and Simpson was tasked with singing a powerful, glittery version of Cyrus’ classic “Wrecking Ball” alongside the superstar. Do you think Simpson did good enough to win this season of “The Voice” and join the list of past winners? Watch Brooke Simpson and Miley Cyrus’ duet performance from “The Voice” 2017 live shows above.
Our writer Denton Davidson live-blogged the episode, and as he said, “Miley is pulling out her biggest hit to launch Brooke into the winner’s circle. I was secretly hoping Miley would come swinging through a brick wall on an actual wrecking ball while waving a foam finger, but they are keeping it simple. They both sound great, but I’m getting the impression there was not a ton of time to rehearse these duets because none of them have been stellar. But this is probably the best one so far.”
Back in her blind audition of the reality TV show, Simpson performed “Stone Cold” and had all four coaches turn their chairs around: Cyrus, Levine, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton. The next time we saw Simpson in the battle rounds, she and Sophia Bollman sang “You’re a Big Girl Now” and Simpson was declared the winner by her coach Cyrus. In the knockouts Simpson was paired up against Stephan Marcellus and Simpson prevailed thanks to her performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Simpson’s rendition of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” in the playoffs was good enough to send her through to the current live shows. She sang “Praying” during Top 12 week, “What About Us” during Top 11 week, “Amazing Grace” during Top 10 week and “Faithfully” during Top 8 week.
Simpson is 26 years old and currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Here is her official NBC bio: “Brooke is a full-blooded Native American from the Haliwa-Saponi tribe. She grew up on tribal grounds with 4,000 Native Americans, including most of her family. Every year they have a powwow and celebrate their traditions just like their forefathers. She discovered her love of music at age seven when she started singing with her parents. They are full-time evangelists and would take trips every weekend in their RV to different churches to sing as a family, leading praise and worship. Brooke has been performing for many years and it’s gotten to the point where she has started to look for a plan B, so a lot is riding on this audition.”
