Jennifer Hudson was an instant success on “The Voice” U.K. earlier this year, mentoring artist Mo Adeniran to a victory on her very first season. But fans of the American version are mixed on Hudson now that she’s crossed the pond and joined up with the U.S. version of “The Voice.” In our recent poll, exactly one-third of respondents said that they “absolutely love” Hudson, while a whopping 49% voted that JHud should “stick to singing,” and 18% opted for the “she’s okay” option. How do YOU feel about Hudson on “The Voice”? Sound off down in the comments section.
Hudson has had a meteoric rise in entertainment after starting out on “American Idol” Season 3 in 2004, where she ultimately lost to Fantasia Barrino. In 2006 she won the Oscar, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG Awards for “Dreamgirls,” thanks in part to her unforgettable performance of “And I Am Telling You.” Hudson also took home a 2009 Grammy for Best R&B Album for her self-titled album.
Fellow “The Voice” coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus have all welcomed Hudson to “The Voice” Season 13 with open arms, so why are many viewers taking unkindly to her? Below, read a sampling of fan comments and then let us know what you think about Hudson joining the reality TV show.
Brenda: “Why are y’all making a poll about this? She is amazing as a coach!!!! Stop all the negativity!!!!!!”
Tari: “She annoying. I want to watch ‘The Voice’ not listen to her sing and show off about how her voice is so great. Jennifer do your job and judge. Let the contestants sing.”
Mark: “Love love love Jennifer Hudson. Such vocal talent. Very humble and beautiful inside and out. Love her as a coach addition. She offers great input. I’d pick JHud as my coach.”
Samantha: “I find Jennifer Hudson to be very overbearing. She is loud, interrupts the singers and won’t let the other judges speak. I have always enjoyed EVERY judge on ‘The Voice,’ but she is just irritating.”
carolann: “This year its political due to Jennifer Hudson … throwing shoes, books and hollering and I’m already sick of the political junk on TV so this is keeping me from watching.”
Robert M. Tarbes: “She brings a whole new and refreshing style of judging to the voice. We love her attitude and heart. I believe her team will win this year’s voice competition. Love Jennifer Hudson.”
