Rockers have done well on “The Voice” during the first few seasons, most likely because they inspire passionate fans who will vote for them in the live playoffs. Adam Pearce rocked out on Monday’s knockout round of the show with the Deep Purple classic “Smoke on the Water” for Team Adam Levine. His coach chose to advance Emily Luther, but he is just barely moving on for Season 13 after a last moment steal by rival coach Miley Cyrus.
Gold Derby is now offering live blog coverage for each episode, including all of the battle rounds on Monday, October 16, Tuesday, October 17, Monday, October 23, and Tuesday, October 24. The first knockout round was completely covered last week on Monday, October 30.
Our contributing writer John Benutty had the following commentary in his live blog for Monday: “As suggested, Adam leaves the guitar off stage for ‘Smoke on the Water.’ And he’s spinning around the stage, almost uncontrollably but I think it’s because he sings with so much passion that he can barely contain it and his vocal delivery never suffers. Miley and Jennifer are both huge fans of Adam, especially because his big performance style is going to translate really well for the live shows. Adam’s winner of the knockout is the one he thinks was a showstopper — Emily! And just as Adam is walking away Miley hits her button for the steal! That’s a great pairing and finally we’ll get to see Miley work with a powerful, talented rock male vocalist.”
According to the NBC official bio for Adam: “Adam auditioned for Season 12 singing ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ by Procol Harum. Unfortunately no chairs turned, but Adam Levine encouraged him to work on his pitch problems and come back. Adam took the coaches’ advice to heart, immediately enrolling in vocal lessons, as well as continuing to gig out four to five times a week. Adam received a ton of support from New Orleans after last season, but he really wants to do this for his family, who told him to never give up.”
