Based on Monday’s showcase of emotional performances from the Top 10 artists of “The Voice” Season 12, only eight will move on from Tuesday night’s results show to compete in the semi-finals. As always, votes were cast and tracks downloaded on iTunes overnight, both contributing to an artist’s overall vote. The artists whose songs crack the top 10 on iTunes get a vote multiplier while the three artists with the lowest overall vote will sing again for one “instant save” to be determined live via Twitter at the end of Tuesday’s show. The winner of the instant save will become the 8th artist to sing next week while the other two will be eliminated.
At Gold Derby we’re asking you to predict all season long in four questions — Which artist will win the season?; Which coach will win the season?; Which artist will be eliminated this week?; and Which artist will be in the bottom but not eliminated? Your predictions are compiled with everyone predicting to determine overall odds in each of the questions. See below for my analysis of which artists are leading the odds in each question based on your predictions after Monday night’s performance show. Then check out my personal power rankings of Monday night’s performances and be sure to update your own predictions in the next few hours before tonight’s results are revealed.
Prior to the close of voting this morning, both Hunter Plake (“Higher Love”) and Lauren Duski (“Tell Me Why”) had cracked the iTunes Top 10. Both artists earned the 5x vote multiplier last week and are seen as the frontrunners of the season. In our exclusive racetrack odds Lauren is the overwhelming top choice as most likely to win with 27/20 odds. Hunter is currently second in that race with 5/1 odds, followed closely by Chris Blue with 11/2 odds.
This is Lauren’s first week leading our predictions after having proven to be the most bankable artist in terms of iTunes presence. In that regard, Chris has fallen from the leading spot after being an early frontrunner since his blind audition performance. Lauren’s position has helped elevated that of her coach Blake Shelton who is now second in our odds for the coach most likely to win with 5/2. He still trails Gwen Stefani, Hunter’s coach, who leads with 11/10 odds of winning. Gwen is also the coach of Brennley Brown, a young country star who earned the iTunes bonus two weeks ago and has 4th place odds of winning at 9/1.
Lauren, Hunter, Chris and Brennley have been widely considered the destined top 4 and should easily make it to next week’s semi-finals. That leaves four spots open for the six other artists. The two most predicted to be in danger of elimination on Tuesday are Adam Levine‘s Mark Isaiah who has been in the bottom and earned the instant save for the last two weeks–we’re giving him 4/5 odds of elimination tonight. Behind him with 10/3 odds is Team Blake’s TSoul, who I thought gave the best performance on Monday, but may not have built a strong enough fan base to keep him safe through the double elimination.
Because three artists will sing for the save, Alicia Keys artist Vanessa Ferguson might feel the heat for the first time — we have her as the third most likely to be eliminated with 11/1 odds. If not her, it might be Adam’s traditional pop vocalist Lilli Passero with 22/1 odds or Blake’s Aliyah Moulden (33/1 odds) despite her deeply emotional performance of “Jealous” dedicated to her late father. Jesse Larson, Adam’s soul rock musician, is a bit of a wild card here because he has 100/1 odds in both questions — he’s as much of a longshot to win as he is to be eliminated.
