One of the most emotional highlights on Monday’s “The Voice” was provided by Season 12 frontrunner Chris Blue. He took on the Percy Sledge classic ballad “When a Man Loves a Woman,” not an easy tune to put your stamp on, for his coach Alicia Keys (watch his performance below). Will Alicia be able to defeat five-time champ Blake Shelton, three-time winner Adam Levine, and rival coach Gwen Stefani later on this spring in the finale?
In his rankings for Monday’s program, our writer Denton Davidson says the following about Chris: “On this series called “The Voice” it is refreshing when an artist comes along that truly has the vocal capacity to deliver mind blowing performance week in and week out based purely on their voice. It shouldn’t go unnoticed how rare it is to hear a singer like this in modern popular music and it’s a shame. The body and soul Chris put into this performance was spine-tingling. He is the best singer in the competition and possesses something truly special. That doesn’t always translate into the best performance on a given night, but on this one, it did.”
According to his NBC bio: “Chris grew up in a family of seven in a tiny house. His mother decided to put the family in a band called the Blue Family, where they sang at local churches. It later became the Blue Brothers and they performed across the Midwest and later at the Bobby Jones Gospel show on BET. After high school, Chris worked various jobs and even attempted to go back to school. For the past six years, he has worked as a worship leader. During this time, he met his fiancée, Stephanie, who is from England. They have been in a long-distance relationship ever since. She’s been battling bone marrow cancer for most of her life and flatlined during surgery recently. It’s hard on Chris, who has been struggling with not being there through the hard times.”
