Every so often a young artist auditions for “The Voice” and blows the coaches away with a talent beyond their years. In Season 4 it was Danielle Bradbery, whose flawless country voice helped coach Blake Shelton bring her into the winner’s circle at just 16 years old. In season 8, a folk-rock singer by the name of Sawyer Fredericks accomplished the same feat with his coach Pharrell Williams. For Season 13 that artist is Addison Agen, whose heartfelt blind audition of “Jolene” led coaches Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus into a sparring match, desperately fighting to convince her to join their teams. Miley eventually won out, but Adam got the last laugh when he stole this potential winner from Team Miley after the Battles.
That Battle of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” against Karli Webster was one of the tightest match-ups of the season. Miley loved the texture of Addison’s tone and the slight breaks in her voice as she sang. But Addison was discarded by Miley, a decision the coach may soon regret should the 16-year old bring her new coach, Adam, his fourth victory. Since joining Team Adam, Addison has flourished in the competition and delivered one of the most memorable Knockout performances with “Beneath Your Beautiful,” which sent Dennis Drummond packing. She stepped it up even further in the Playoffs, tackling the country hit “Angel From Montgomery,” which brought the coaches to their feet and advanced her into the Top 12.
Addison began singing when she was just four years old. By age 11 she was already writing music. She is a magnetic force on stage and has drawn comparisons to pop music’s top artist of the decade, Adele, all season long. Her voice is instantly recognizable and although she hasn’t displayed much vocal range, the depth for her tone makes her remarkably powerful. Addison’s mix of country and pop music could be just what it takes to create a large enough fan base to win Season 13. Should she accomplish that, she would be just the third 16-year old to do so.
Do YOU think Addison Agen has what it takes to win? Will she be the third 16-year old to take the crown? Let us know in the comments!
