Jesse Larson is the only artist remaining in “The Voice” Season 12 competition for Team Adam Levine. For Monday’s Top 8 episode, he chose the perfect moment to possibly have his greatest showcase of the year. He performed the Chris Stapleton hit country song “I Was Wrong” with great effectiveness and thunderous applause (watch his performance on the video above). His coach is attempting to win a fourth championship against five-time champ Blake Shelton, plus rivals Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani each hoping to triumph for the first time.
In his rankings for Monday’s program, our writer Denton Davidson says the following about Jesse: “Easily his best performance of the season, Jesse shredded this song both vocally and on guitar. There wasn’t much of a production behind him and there was none necessary with a voice like that ringing out behind the microphone. Jesse has had a good reception from viewers from performances I found mediocre in the past so I can only imagine what this performance will do for him on the iTunes chart. There is definitely a possibility Jesse will upstage one of the longtime favorites this season and steal a spot in next week’s finale.”
According to his NBC bio: “Jesse’s father was his biggest influence and introduced him to classic blues at a young age. After his father suddenly died of a heart attack, he began to lose his drive and considered quitting music. Then he got a call to audition for Prince. After many auditions, he got the opportunity to play for Judith Hill, whom Prince was producing. After Prince’s sudden death, the tour was canceled, but the experience reignited Jesse’s passion for music.”
