It’s all been leading up to this. The season seven finale of “The Walking Dead” airs Sunday, April 2, and Alexandria’s safety hangs in the balance. Last year, fans were served a double homicide courtesy of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his baseball bat Lucille. Will this season’s final episode be just as fatal? Watch AMC’s preview trailer above.
Dwight (Austin Amelio) appeared last episode as a new element in Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) war plan. Dwight has fought and killed for Negan, but his relationship with that leader has become strained to say the least. In the video, he claims to want the big guy dead and offers to slow down the Saviors’ march on Alexandria. Has he truly turned a new leaf, or is he operating with some other sinister agenda? He is seen standing with the Saviors in the final frames of the trailer, so his true intentions are up in the air.
The Alexandrians are doing a good job of slowing Negan down, even without Dwight. Several roadblocks litter the path to Alexandria, mirroring the way Negan trapped Rick’s RV in season six. The dynamite grabbed from the Saviors’ walker trap also makes an appearance. Eagle-eyed viewers will spot Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) manning the city walls alongside Rick. For the moment, the junkyard gang appears to have kept their promise to aid Alexandria. Let’s hope Jadis knows what kind of bloodbath she’s gotten her people into.
In a concerning reveal, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) has apparently not taken Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) poison pill. She was adamant about killing herself so Negan could not use her to hurt her friends. She is seen trying to bargain with him, urging that “no one has to die.” But Negan obviously has other plans. Hopefully Sasha figures out a plan, otherwise the look of horror spotted on Rosita’s (Christian Serratos) face could indicate Sasha has been dragged to Alexandria.
Alexandria won’t be alone in the fight. The promo offers glimpses of Carol (Melissa McBride) and Ezekiel (Khary Payton) geared up for battle, complete with tiger Shiva in tow! It would be a satisfying character moment if Rick took down Negan. But, I don’t think any fans would complain if the villain was eaten by a tiger instead.
