Sunday’s episode of “The Walking Dead,” titled “The Other Side,” seemed to definitively answer the question about where Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) loyalties truly lie. At the end of Season 7, Episode 14, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) attempt to free Eugene, but he refuses to go with him. “I didn’t tell you to come, so go,” Eugene cries before running back into Negan’s factory. Since it appears as though Eugene has officially joined Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors, should the Alexandrians kill Eugene for betraying them? Vote in our poll below.
Eugene has always been a sort of chameleon on “The Walking Dead,” effortlessly moving from group to group in order to survive. He even created a lie that he knew how to find a cure for the walkers in order to secure protection from Rosita and the late Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). At Alexandria, he was finally fitting in with everybody and even aided Rosita in creating a bullet, but as soon as he was kidnapped by Negan, everything changed.
The episode three weeks ago that focused on Eugene and Negan ended with the scientist memorably declaring, “I’m Negan. I was Negan before I met you, but I just needed to meet you properly to know.” However, fans weren’t sure whether Eugene was conning Negan, or if he was really accepting of his new life as one of Negan’s soldiers. Well, it seems as though we have our answer after the shocking climax of Sunday’s episode.
What do you think, “The Walking Dead” fans? Should Eugene’s punishment be death, or is there still a chance for redemption? After voting in our Eugene poll, be sure to sound off about the current season in the comments section below and in our fun TV forums.
