In a shocking reveal nobody will see coming, “Survivor: Game Changers” castoff Tony Vlachos tells Gold Derby following his elimination that he’s “rooting for Sandra” to win the $1 million prize. Tony’s arch nemesis Sandra Diaz-Twine was solely responsible for Tony’s ouster in the two-hour season premiere, so why is he now hoping that she ultimately prevails? “She outwitted me. I respect game play. These people didn’t want to go against me, but they did it anyway [because Sandra told them to]. Do you know how much skill it takes to do that? To make you do something you really don’t want to do? That’s impressive.”

When we ask how it felt for the former winner to have host Jeff Probst snuff his torch for the first time, Tony confesses, “Absolutely devastating. Awful. One thing that popped into my mind? Man, I feel so bad about all of those torches that I had a big part of snuffing in Cagayan. I’m like, wow, that really hurts man, and it sucks.”
So, why did Tony vote to eliminate Aubry Bracco in the season premiere instead of Sandra? “When the Sandra episode happened, Sandra happened to turn Aubry against me,” he explains. “She wasn’t giving me any play so at that point I knew she wasn’t working with me and that’s why she wasn’t my #2 anymore. Once Sandra turned on me, she turned everybody against me. I had no numbers — gone — just like that.”
Also in our “Survivor” podcast, Tony admits that he’s rooting for his former “Cops R Us” partner-in-crime Sarah Lacina to make it far in the game “because of the experience we had in Cagayan.” He chats about coming into the game with a huge target on his back, and whether he’d ever want to come back to play for a third time.
