Emmy-wise, “Veep” is a force to be reckoned with. The show has won back-to-back prizes for Best Comedy Series and is a shoo-in to win a third on September 17. It has a whopping 17 nominations heading into the 2017 Emmys, a series-best for the six-year-old program that has risen in nominations every year since the beginning.
Stand-out star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is also a frontrunter to win Best Comedy Actress again, and it would be her record-breaking sixth in a row for playing ex-President Selina Meyer. Other performers nominated at the 2017 Emmys are two-time champ Tony Hale (2013 and 2015) and Matt Walsh for Best Comedy Supporting Actor, Anna Chlumsky for Best Comedy Supporting Actress and Hugh Laurie for Best Comedy Guest Actor.
The show also has two nominations for Best Comedy Writing this year (“Georgia” and “Groundbreaking”) and three for Best Comedy Directing (“Blurb,” “Justice” and “Groundbreaking”).
