Back in 2001, “Wet Hot American Summer,” a sly satire of teen movies, made a splash in theaters. It then built up a cult following over the years. Part of the appeal was seeing a slew of now-famous faces — Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, and Christopher Meloni — make merry before they hit it big.
Two years ago, those stars reunited for an eight-episode prequel, “The First Day of Camp,” that streamed on Netflix. That was so successful that the streaming service commissioned another season, “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.” This new eight-episode installment will be available for binge viewing on August 4. (Watch the teaser trailer above.)
As per the title, the action has shifted forward a decade to 1991. Among the others from the ensemble who are back for more fun and games at Camp Firewood are: Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon and Michael Showalter.
While Cooper couldn’t take part due to other commitments, his absence is made up by the additions of the likes of Poehler’s “Parks and Recreation” partner Adam Scott as well as Dax Shepard, Alyssa Milano, Mark Feuerstein and Marlo Thomas.
