Over the past month our readers have narrowed down the choices for who should host the 2018 Oscars to first-timer Ricky Gervais and returning fave Ellen DeGeneres. Who do YOU think would be the better host? It’s the final showdown between these two Hollywood heavyweights, so be sure to cast your vote in our poll below that pits Gervais vs. DeGeneres. For a refresher of former Oscar hosts through the years, click through our photo gallery.
Gervais received worldwide acclaim for his hosting stints at the Golden Globes in 2010-2012 and 2016, setting an acerbic tone that felt just right for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual gala of drunken acceptance speeches. We’d love to see how the popular British comedian would have handled Envelopegate at this year’s Oscars.
Following Whoopi Goldberg, DeGeneres is only the second woman to host the Oscars solo, in 2007 and 2014. She put a personal spin on the show by going out and interacting with the audience, something this year’s ringleader Jimmy Kimmel emulated in his act. DeGeneres is perhaps best known for her impromptu celebrity selfie in 2014 with the likes of Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Brad Pitt.
Popular performers that came close to making it to this final showdown were Kimmel, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, Kate McKinnon and Hugh Jackman. After voting in our poll below with your top choice between Ricky Gervais and Ellen DeGeneres, be sure to sound off with other Oscar fans in our notorious movie forums.
