If Eva Igo ever had trouble finding her confidence, you wouldn’t know it from her bad-ass performance during the “World of Dance” Division Finals. Wearing war paint and a fearsome expression, she commanded the stage with an intense performance that was like something out of “Mad Max.” Furiosa herself would have been proud.
The 14-year-old Igo delighted the judges during The Cut round when she displayed newfound vulnerability and emotional connection to her music. She told her coach Derek Hough this week that her routine for Division Finals would be different. That concerned him after her recent breakthrough, but when he saw her ferocity during rehearsals he no longer had any doubt. During her ultimate performance on the “World of Dance” stage she gave Hough goosebumps, and fellow judge Jennifer Lopez told her that there was something missing from her dancing when she started the competition, but not anymore.
Igo’s performance scored significantly better than her Junior Division rival Diana Pombo. The 11-year old dancer has similar flexibility and technical skill, but the judges weren’t as drawn in by her “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired performance. She received the lowest score of the night (89.3), compared to Igo’s stellar 96.7.
