“Big Little Lies”’s big awards run will continue at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Following Emmy and Golden Globe triumphs, the HBO show is the 10/11 odds favorite to take home Best Limited Series at Thursday’s Critics’ Choice Awards, according to our latest predictions.
After two years with a combined limited series/TV movie category, Critics’ Choice split them up again this year. There is a four-way tie for second with 10/3 odds between “Feud: Bette and Joan,” “Fargo,” “Godless” and “American Vandal.” Bringing up the rear is “The Long Road Home” (7/2 odds). “Fargo” has won this category twice for its first two seasons, in 2014 and 2016.
“Big Little Lies” also received unanimous backing from our three participating Experts — Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Adnan Virk (ESPN) and myself — and six participating Gold Derby Editors, including Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria, Paul Sheehan and Daniel Montgomery.
“Big Little Lies” dominated the Emmys and Golden Globes, with eight and four wins, respectively, including Best Limited Series. But with the recent Season 2 renewal — which came two days after Critics’ Choice unveiled its nominations on Dec. 6 — “Big Little Lies” will almost certainly compete as a drama series moving forward. The Producers Guild Awards already switched its designation and the show made the drama lineup last week. But the two other major guilds, the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild, kept “Big Little Lies” in the limited series/longform categories.
