The 2018 Independent Spirit Awards on March 3 has attracted a ton of talent more often associated with mainstream fare. Indeed, among those slated to present prizes at the 33rd annual edition of the Indie Spirits are two Oscar nominees — Timothe Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name”) and Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya“) — who are also in contention here. Also set to take to the stage at least once is one of Chalamet’s rivals for Best Actor, Robert Pattinson (“Good Times”).
These three lead a roster of presenters that also includes: Fred Armisen, Chadwick Boseman, Carrie Brownstein, John Cho, Jason Clarke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jon Hamm, Ethan Hawke, Salma Hayek, Ben Mendelsohn, Janelle Monae, Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Olsen, Amanda Seyfried, Michael Stuhlbarg and Lena Waithe.
The Indie Spirit Awards will air live on IFC beginning at 2 p.m. PT/ 5 p.m. ET. Returning as hosts for a second year in a row are Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, long-time collaborators who had a 2017 run on the rialto in “Oh, Hello on Broadway.” They wrote and performed in this laughfest, playing two of their favorite characters, the grumpy old men Gil Kaizon (Kroll) and George St. Geegland (Mulaney).
Luca Guadagnino‘s “Call Me by Your Name” reaped a leading six bids, with both Ben and Josh Sadfie‘s “Good Time” and Jordan Peele‘s “Get Out” earning five nominations. Greta Gerwig‘s solo directorial debut “Lady Bird” follows with four.
