ACM Awards 2018: Reba McEntire held the record for Female Vocalist until Miranda Lambert broke it – can she take it back?

Reba McEntire won seven Academy of Country Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year (1985-1988, 1991-1992, 1995). That was more than any other artist in the history of the awards, and that record held for more than two decades until Miranda Lambert tied it in 2016 and then broke it in 2017. Lambert has now won eight straight Female Vocalist titles (2010-2017). But both women are nominated again this year, so who will win this time?

According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have entered their picks in our predictions center thus far, Lambert is the heavy favorite to win again with 11/10 odds. That would give her a record-extending nine Female Vocalist victories. Among those currently betting on Lambert are 16 of our Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s ACMs, and 16 of our All-Star Top 24 who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ predictions. Lambert is helped by the fact that she has three other nominations this year, which shows strong support from the academy. She’s also up for Song of the Year for “Tin Man” (as both writer and artist) and Video of the Year for “We Should Be Friends.”

McEntire trails in fifth place with 4/1 odds and support from only one of our Top Users and one of our All-Stars, but perhaps we’re underestimating her. Even though this is her only nomination this year, she’s a legend in the country music business, and on top of that she’ll be hosting the awards for the 17th time in 32 years, which will put her front of mind for voters. And if the academy is feeling Lambert fatigue after eight years, they may decide to even the score by giving McEntire the eighth win that would bring her back into a tie for the all-time record.

So do you think Lambert will keep the streak alive, or could McEntire steal her thunder?
