Alec Baldwin‘s impression of President Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live” may be good enough for the Emmys, but it’s not good enough for our readers. In our recent “SNL” poll, Baldwin’s tweeter-in-chief was named the second best presidential performance of all time, behind — you guessed it — Will Ferrell as George W. Bush. Ferrell returned to Studio 8H this weekend and brought back his bumbling Dubya to great fanfare, so the fact that he was fresh in our readers’ minds probably didn’t hurt. Do you agree that Ferrell’s Bush is the best “SNL” POTUS ever? Give us your thoughts down in the comments section.
Since its premiere in 1975 NBC’s “Saturday Night Light” has made waves by skewering the current sitting POTUS, beginning with Chevy Chase‘s take on Gerald Ford. The current President Trump has been taken on by a plethora of performers over the years, including Darrell Hammond, Taran Killam and even Leslie Jones, but Baldwin’s version is the one that went viral as it debuted during the height of the 2016 election.
Most of Baldwin’s “Saturday Night Live” sketches are opposite two-time Emmy champ Kate McKinnon, who keeps busy by portraying many of the show’s political figures, both women AND men. Among her most notable impressions are Hillary Clinton, Kellyanne Conway, Elizabeth Warren, Betsy DeVos, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Jeff Sessions and Robert Mueller.
Here’s how all of the “SNL” presidential votes were distributed, according to our poll respondents:
Will Ferrell as George W. Bush = 34%
Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump = 28%
Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton = 16%
Dana Carvey as George H. W. Bush = 12%
Jay Pharoah as Barack Obama = 5%
Phil Hartman as Ronald Reagan = 2%
Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter = 2%
Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford = 1%
