‘American Idol’ premieres March 11 on ABC: Ryan Seacrest hosts new judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie

Less than two years after ending on FOX, “American Idol” is returning to the airwaves. ABC has scheduled the first episode of this reboot for Sunday, March 11 beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. Returning to emcee the revival is Ryan Seacrest, who hosted all 15 seasons of “American Idol” on Fox. Brand new to the judging panel are pop princess Katy Perry, country superstar Luke Bryan and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie.

“American Idol” will air two-hour episodes every Sunday and Monday until the live shows begin on April 22 (see the full schedule below). The premiere, as well as Monday’s episode, showcases auditions held in five cities last fall: Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City and Savannah.

As with the version that ran on Fox for 15 seasons, the first few episodes of this reboot will be taped. These shows will include the auditions in various locales, Hollywood Week, the top 50 being culled to two dozen and those Top 24 in both solo performances and celebrity duets.
