The Top 7 on “American Idol” are heading out on the road this summer to play a series of live concert dates around the country, reports Variety. Season 8 winner Kris Allen will host with these season 16 artists set to take to the stage: Gabby Barrett, Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Maddie Poppe, Jurnee Siani, Catie Turner and Michael J. Woodard.
In a smart move, the show’s producers are booking the season 16 tour into smaller venues than they have in the past to ensure sell-out crowds. The eight-week tour will begin on July 1. Confirmed dates include the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California on July 27 and Wente Vineyards in Livermore, California on July 31.
Other dates will be announced on the May 6 live episode of “American Idol,” which will feature the Top 7 singing two songs: one from the catalog of the late singer/songwriter Prince and the other from the year they were born.
Advance tickets for the “American Idol” season 16 tour will be available on Tuesday, May 8 to fans who pre-register at ABC. American Express cardholders get access on May 9 while certain venues will offer pre-sales to preferred customers on May 10. General ticket sales begin on Friday, May 11.
In a nice case of corporate synergy, In Real Life, winners of the summer 2017 ABC reality competition series “Boy Band,” will be the opening act. They have a deal with Disney Records, which is owned by the parent company of ABC. And the alphabet network has turned to Jared Paul, who produces the highly successful live version of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” to oversee the logistics of the “American Idol” tour.
The “American Idol” tour was a tradition for the first 14 years of the show on FOX. It showcased such winners as Kelly Clarkson (season 1), Carrie Underwood (season 4) and Allen. However, with the cancellation of “American Idol” by FOX in 2016, the season 15 winner, Trent Harmon, didn’t get a chance to tour.
