Peta Murgatroyd open to a Season 27 ‘Dancing with the Stars’ return: ‘It’s definitely a possibility’

Peta Murgatroyd won’t be on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” but unlike her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, she likely hasn’t had her last dance. Asked by the “Akron Beacon Journal” if she’d return for Season 27 in the fall, Murgatroyd said, “It’s definitely a possibility.”

Along with her husband and her brother-in-law Val Chmerkovskiy, Murgatroyd is sitting out the four-week, all-athletes installment because of their “Confidential” tour. Maks said last week that he’d like to transition into judging on “Dancing,” but Murgatroyd can still see herself going for a third Mirrorball trophy.

“I love that show,” she said. “I’ve had such a great seven years. It’s made me what I am today. I love the feel of a competition. I’m a very competitive person and I like to win. It’s a great show because you meet so many incredible people.”

One of Murgatroyd’s two victories was with former Green Bay Packer Donald Driver, so she knows a thing or two about coaching athletes. While she doesn’t think any celebrity is fully prepared for the rigorous schedule and physical toll of the show, she acknowledges that athletes come in with an edge.

“Athletes do have a little bit of an advantage because they are used to being competitive,” Murgatroyd said. “They’re used to having a coach and they’re used to running drills over and over again to get better at something.”

Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” whose cast will be announced Friday on “Good Morning America,” premieres Monday, April 30 at 8/7c. The regular “Dancing” season will return in September.

Do you hope Murgatroyd returns to “Dancing with the Stars” in the fall?
