Gold Derby Senior Editor Joyce Eng admits that her current Oscar predictions are a bit, ahem, over-optimistic in terms of “Lady Bird.” She’s got it winning Best Picture, Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf) and screenplay.
When I challenge her lineup, she caves and concedes in our chat (watch video above, hear audio podcast version below): “I realize I’m biased toward ‘Lady Bird’ and it’s not going to win all of those categories, but these predictions are mostly place-holders. But I do think ‘Lady Bird’ can win Best Picture just because of the preferential ballot. “
Her predictions – and all of ours – will change after the Golden Globes are doled out this Sunday, but for now it’s interesting to see Joyce’s rankings prior to more beans being spilled soon at Producers’ Guild Awards, SAG, DGA, Critics’ Choice Awards and other trophy shows.
