Our readers have been at odds with the judges for a while this season on “Project Runway All Stars,” objecting to many of the recent eliminations like Amanda Valentine, Char Glover and Kimberly Goldson. But when the judges decided to send home Merline Labissiere in “Mizrahi Madness” our readers agreed. Scroll down for the complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
Labissiere was the right choice for elimination according to almost three-quarters of “Runway” fans who voted in our poll (74%). Judge Isaac Mizrahi, whose own artwork and designs inspired the challenge, said Labissiere’s architectural look “didn’t come across,” and Alyssa Milano thought it was forced. It wasn’t all bad, though. Guest judge Carmen Dell’Orefice said, “There was something in the back [of the design] that told me she has design in her.” And Georgina Chapman gave her credit “for giving us an intention and pushing the boundaries.”
But it wasn’t enough to compensate for an unsuccessful design, so Labissiere was sent home. It was the end of an inconsistent season for the designer. She got off to a great start, winning the first challenge of the season and getting a high score from the judges in week two as well. But then she got low scores in three out of the next four challenges. In two of those, “Fashion’s New Superheroes” and “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop,” our readers thought the judges should have sent her home, so perhaps her ouster in episode eight was actually overdue.
