Edmond Newton finally won his first design challenge on “Project Runway All Stars” season 6 in episode 10, “Rock Your Face Off,” only to be eliminated the very next week in episode 11, “Nina’s Crushing It.” Did he deserve such a cruel twist of fashion fate? Alas, according to our readers, he did: two-thirds of respondents in our poll (67%) thought he deserved to get the boot. Scroll down to the bottom of this post for our complete poll results.
“Nina’s Crushing It” brought out guest judge Nina Garcia, who challenged the designers to create resort-wear looks based on different levels from the “Candy Crush Saga” mobile video game. There were only five contestants left, so the judges critiqued everyone, with three of them getting high scores and two of them — Newton and Anthony Williams — getting low scores.
Newton’s fate may have been sealed at the very beginning of the episode when the designers played a game of “Candy Crush” to decide who would get to pick their design inspirations in what order. Newton finished last in that game, so he was stuck with the mountains as his resort locale after the other four designers passed on it — for good reason as it turned out.
Newton seemed unsure of himself in designing for the mountains. He was aiming for a body suit appropriate for the ski slopes, but he ended up with a design that looked more like a wet suit for SCUBA diving. “I think you got tripped up,” said Garcia about Newton’s attempt to interpret the challenge. And host and judge Alyssa Milano thought the ill fit made it look like his model was “packing a penis.”
However, 11% of our readers thought the judges should have sent home Williams for designing safari-wear that the judges thought was underwhelming. Garcia thought his model looked like a nurse, and Milano thought the design resembled “an apron.”
The remaining 22% of our readers thought the eliminated contestant should have been one of the three who weren’t even in the judges’ bottom two: Stanley Hudson, Fabio Costa, or the challenge’s ultimate winner Ken Laurence. So who do you think really had the worst look of the week? Were the judges right to eliminate Newton in fifth place, or did he deserve a spot in the top four?
