‘Roseanne’ revival welcomes back ‘Big Bang Theory’ star Johnny Galecki [WATCH]

The new trailer for the return of “Roseanne” to ABC on March 27 gives viewers the first extended look at the cast as they are now and were then when the comedy series premiered in 1988. Watch this fun-filled video below, which includes the first look of “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki in the role launched his TV career: the hapless David Healey.

The “Roseanne” revival returns in the show’s traditional Tuesday night time slot for a run of nine episodes. That is one episode for each of its nine seasons. This one-time ratings juggernaut starred Roseanne Barr and John Goodman as Roseanne and Dan Conner, a working class couple in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois, where they raise their children Becky (Lecy Goranson, who alternated in the role with Sarah Chalke), Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and D.J. (Michael Fishman).

All of those actors are back for the reboot (Goranson will play Becky, while Chalke will return in another role), as is Oscar nominee Laurie Metcalf (“Lady Bird“) as Roseanne’s sister Jackie. Metcalf won three Emmys for Best Comedy Supporting Actress (1992-1994) while Barr claimed Best Comedy Actress once (1993).

While the show never contended for Best Comedy Series, since then the alphabet net has become the premier awards player for broadcast TV comedies. “Modern Family” recently tied “Frasier’s” record of five consecutive Comedy Series victories (2010-2014), and “Black-ish” has contended for the last two years running. In both 2016 and 2017, ABC was the only broadcast network represented in the Best Comedy Series lineup, which was dominated by cable and streaming options.
