Mark your calendars! Screen Actors Guild Awards set 2019 date

The Screen Actors Guild Awards were only 18 days ago, but it’s already time to think about next year’s ceremony. The 25th Annual SAG Awards will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, SAG-AFTRA announced Thursday. The show will once again be simulcast on TNT and TBS starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

The SAG Awards are shifting back to their usual slot on the last Sunday in January next year. The ceremony moves up by a week — sometimes airing on a Saturday — during Winter Olympic years to accommodate the condensed calendar; this year the show was on Sunday, Jan. 21.

No other details were released, like if there’ll be a host for the second time ever. But we can probably expect a similar timeline as in years past, with submissions due at the end of October (this season it was Oct. 23, 2017) and nomination voting opening mid-November (Nov. 16, 2017) for three weeks. Nominations will likely once again fall on the second Wednesday in December, which is Dec. 12 this year.

SAG’s notoriously early timeline has hurt late releases that haven’t even been screened yet while SAG-AFTRA members are already logging votes. This season “The Post” held its first screening three days after SAG voting started and hit theaters Dec. 22. “Phantom Thread” held its first screenings over Thanksgiving weekend — a week after voting started — before opening on Christmas Day. Neither film received SAG nominations, but both earned Best Picture Oscar nominations, as well as acting ones for “The Post”‘s Meryl Streep and “Phantom Thread”’s Daniel Day-Lewis and Lesley Manville.

On the TV side, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which premiered on Nov. 29, was snubbed. SAG typically takes about a year to get around to “new” shows, but the Amazon series went on to win Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Producer Guild Awards in the past month.

Will any film or series be affected next season?
