7:59 p.m. – “Previously, on ‘The Amazing Race’!” Last season, which concluded on June 1, 2017, pairs of strangers were introduced to each other at the start of the race in a unique twist for the long-running reality TV show. Businesswoman Brooke Camhi and university recruiting manager Scott Flanary claimed victory despite having several notorious arguments along the way. (See the complete list of “The Amazing Race” winners.) Who will be joining them as the winners of Season 30?
8:10 p.m. – The competitors all met up at Washington Square Park in New York City to kick off the race. The interesting mix of contestants this season includes athletes, reality stars and everyday people. The cast is all pretty athletic so there doesn’t appear to be serious underdogs right out of the gate like most seasons. And on Phil Keoghan’s “Go!” the race began as the everyone jumped into a fountain to discover they are headed to Iceland!
8:20 p.m. – Upon landing the teams were instructed to make their way to a waterfall to collect their next clue. Henry and Evan (Team Yale) proved intelligence matters and arrived first. The challenge involved zip-lining across a canyon to collect a flag. Jessica and Cody (Team Big Brother) followed in second place before nearly everyone else caught up.
8:30 p.m. – April and Sarah (Team Goat Yoga Moms) were the first to engage in some serious drama as they argued in the car about their inability to navigate. Meanwhile, Team Yale had already arrived at the second challenge. In #SpellItOut the teams had to ride dune buggies in search of letters that spelled a clue to their next destination. Cody then shocked Team Yale by defeating them in a spelling competition and launched Team Big Brother into first place!
8:40 p.m. – Team Big Brother arrived to their next destination where they had to ask locals a couple of basic questions about Iceland to earn their next clue. After downing a two shots to celebrate their success, Jessica and Cody headed to the first pit stop on foot. Kristi and Jen (Team Extreme) followed closely behind. Perhaps the alcohol got the best of Team Big Brother, because Team Extreme passed them up and won the first leg of the race, along with a trip to Greece! Team Big Brother were left lost, wandering the streets.
8:50 p.m. – Jessica and Cody managed to finish in second place and other teams quickly began crossing the finish line behind them. Meanwhile, Cedric and Shawn (Team Slam Dunk) were so terrible in the spelling challenge that Team Goat Yoga Moms managed to catch up and pass them. But in a decision they may live to regret, the Goat Yoga Moms helped the former NBA players before darting off to the final challenge.
8:59 p.m. – Somehow Team Slam Dunk managed to come from behind and pass up three other teams to finish in eighth place, only to learn they incurred a 30 minute penalty! They were forced to sit and wait it out. As their penalty time expired, Team Goat Yoga were in a foot race with Dessie and Kayla (The Ring Girls) to avoid last place. In the closest finish ever, Team Goat Yoga edged out the models and Dessie and Kayla were the first duo eliminated from the race.
