Tuesday night on NBC, 18-year-old Alexa Cappelli sang The Kiki Dee Band’s “I’ve Got the Music in Me” during the blind auditions of “The Voice” Season 14. The Upland, California native is still a student and one of the younger performers on this cycle of the reality TV show. Two coaches — Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine — turned their chairs around for Alexa, and she ultimately chose to be on Team Kelly. Can Alexa make it all the way to the Season 14 live shows? “You’ve gotta be tired from all those runs,” declared Kelly after Alexa’s powerhouse performance. Kelly didn’t have to do much to woo Alexa onto her team, since Alexa previously auditioned with “People Like Us” to get into her art school. Alexa and Kelly performed a quick duet of the song before Kelly begged, “I’m so excited! Please pick me, please. I know how to navigate with you because I have a similar voice. I’ve done stuff in pop rock, I’ve done a little R&B. I love music.”
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson commented, “She’s comfortable on stage and has a clear, powerful voice. Adam and Kelly both turned their chairs, but I honestly don’t think Alicia or Blake are losing out on a potential champ here. She’s probably a better fit for Kelly and admitted to being a fan. It was an obvious choice for Alexa to join Team Kelly.”
