Which artist will win “The Voice” Season 14? Could it be someone from Team Alicia Keys, the 15-time Grammy winner who is defending her Season 12 title she shared with Chris Blue? That’s the question we debate in our lively new video (watch above) in advance of next week’s live playoffs starting on Monday. Managing editor Chris Beachum hosts a slugfest between contributing writers John Benutty and Denton Davidson.
The Emmy-winning NBC reality TV show now has the Top 24 artists ready to compete for the championship. Each of this season’s coaches — Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and Alicia — have narrowed down their teams to six singers apiece. A whopping 12 singers will be eliminated by the end of next Wednesday’s show (three from each team).
For the video above, our discussion and debate about Team Alicia begins at the 13:45 mark for the 30-minute chat:
Alicia is back for her third season as a coach and many viewers believe she is on pace to win her second consecutive championship. The leader of the pack on her team of six heading into the top 24 live shows has to be Terrence Cunningham. The 36-year old pianist wowed the coaches with his understated blind audition of “My Girl” and has since proven to have unmatched range and musical sensibilities; soaring through the battles and knockouts. Alicia also has Johnny Bliss, Britton Buchanan, her knockout save Christiana Danielle, her knockout steal Jackie Foster (coming from Team Adam) and Kelsea Johnson.
In our slugfest, Denton makes a bold, early prediction that Terrence will be the Season 14 champ. “Terrence is my favorite person on the show. It’s not even close and I think he’s the favorite to win right now,” he asserts. John agrees that Terrence will be easily voted through the live playoffs adding,”He’s got a killer voice. And he’s one of only two four-chair turns remaining.”
When asked to choose which two artists will be voted through on Team Alicia, John’s forecast is that Terrence and Kelsea, both of whom had stellar knockout round performances, will be the audience choices. At that point, Alicia will make the gut-wrenching decision to save Johnny, a powerhouse Latin pop singer that will diversify her team. Denton agrees with John’s picks here, but believes Johnny will advance with America’s vote along with Terrence, and Kelsea will be the one saved by Alicia. Both John and Denton agree that Christiana could be the spoiler depending on how well she delivers her next performance.
