The 11th season of “The X-Files” continued Wednesday night on Fox with an action-packed episode titled “This.” In the hour, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) were hanging out on their couch when they got a strange alert on their phone from Richard “Ringo” Langly (Dean Haglund), one of the deceased Lone Gunmen. What did we think of Langly’s return and the episode overall? In our new video recap (watch above), senior editors Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria and Daniel Montgomery dish the highs and lows of Season 11, Episode 2, written and directed by Glen Morgan.
“The chemistry between Mulder and Scully was really, really on point this episode,” declares Licuria. “I just like the way they interact. That tension from the earlier season is gone obviously now. They’ve just been around each other for so long they can just be themselves, and I like being with them when they’re like that.”
This episode was “a move upwards” from the season 11 premiere, notes Montgomery. “I really liked this concept of this kind of digital afterlife that they’re creating. Like, is this a good thing? One of the Lone Gunmen ended up in this digital afterlife and wants it shut down. I think the idea might be even too big for just this one episode.”
“It was great seeing Langly back,” confesses “X-Files” superfan Dixon. “And they mentioned Deep Throat! I love the scene in the cemetery, but I don’t know how I feel about knowing Deep Throat’s name. I kind of wish the camera had stayed on Mulder and Scully’s face [and that] we hadn’t seen the tombstone. It kind of ruins a little bit of his mystery.”
