“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is breaking up its fourth season to be eligible for the Emmys, but you’re hedging your bets on if the ploy will work. In a recent poll, 50 percent of our readers believe it all depends on the quality of the episodes themselves.
Only six episodes of Season 4 will be released on Wednesday, May 30, one day before the Emmy eligibility deadline, but 35 percent of you feel that will be enough for the show to get on the Emmy radar. Only 15 percent of you think this gamble will leave “Kimmy” on the outside looking in this time around.
The Netflix series has received 16 Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series for each of its first three seasons, and is still awaiting its first win. Season 4 was delayed due to Tina Fey’s new “Mean Girls” musical, but Netflix opted for the split-season strategy instead of sitting out a whole Emmy cycle.
It should be noted that Netflix dropped Season 3 on May 19, 2017, and Season 5 of “House of Cards” on May 30, 2017, right before the May 31 deadline. Both shows made the series cuts.
“Kimmy” is currently in eighth place in our comedy series odds, with Ellie Kemper in the 10th comedy lead actress slot and Jane Krakowski in 11th in supporting. We have the most confidence in Tituss Burgess, who is predicted to win in supporting actor.
