Last month's decision by ABC to renew "General Hospital" was vindicated when the daytime drama reaped 23 nominations. In all, the alphabet net picked up 56 bids, including 11 apiece for the axed sudsers "All My Children" and "One Life to Live."

Both "GH and "AMC" contend for Best Drama against CBS's "The Young and the Restless" (16 noms) and NBC's "Days of Our Lives" (15). Reigning three-time champ "The Bold and the Beautiful" was snubbed.

The Daytime Emmys laud TV programming from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Besides daytime drama, other genres feted included talkers, game shows and children's fare. (See full list of nominations here.)

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has won Best Talk Show (Entertainment) for the last two years in a row. Prior to the creation of this category in 2008, it was named Best Talk Show for four consecutive years. It contends against "Live! With Regis and Kelly" (now just "Kelly"), "The Talk" (CBS) and "The View" (ABC). 2008 and 2009 champ "Rachael Ray" was snubbed.

For Best Talk Show (Informational), 2010 winner "The Doctors" and 2011 champ "The Dr. Oz Show" vie against newcomer "Anderson" which edged out perennial nominee "Dr. Phil."

The announcement of the contenders for the 39th annual edition of these kudos was tempered by the lack of a TV deal. The ceremony takes place on June 23 at the Beverly Hilton, long-time home to the Golden Globes. The creative arts awards will be handed out on June 17.
