Background: Egoyan was born in Cairo, Egypt, and is of Armenian-Egyptian descent. In 1962, his parents left Egypt for British Columbia, Canada. At Trinity College in Toronto, he began to study his Armenian heritage and history. He credits Ingmar Bergman's film "Persona" with inspiring his film career.
Filmography: His feature film directing debut was "Next of Kin" (1984). His notable titles also include "Speaking Parts" (1989), "Exotica" (1994), "The Sweet Hereafter" (1997), "Felicia's Journey" (1999), "Ararat" (2002), "Where the Truth Lies" (2005), and "Chloe" (2009). His latest film is "Devil's Knot" (2012).
