Background: Born Krishna Pandit Bhanji, Kinglsey is a British actor of Gujarati Indian and English descent. He studied at Pendleton College, which eventually became the home of the Ben Kingsley Theatre. He began his acting career on stage, but quickly transitioned into screen acting.

Filmography: He appeared in British film and TV productions, including the soap opera "Coronation Street" and the legal drama "Crown Court," before making his breakthrough as Mahatma Ghandi in the Oscar-winning film "Ghandi" (1982). Since then he has appeared in a number of acclaimed, award-winning films, including "Bugsy" (1991), "Searching for Bobby Fischer" (1993), Steve Spielberg's revered drama "Schindler's List" (1993), "Sexy Beast" (2001), and "House of Sand and Fog" (2003). He has also appeared in numerous television productions, earning four career Emmy nominations. In recent years, he has been seen in "Oliver Twist" (2005), the thriller "Transsiberian" (2008), and Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" (2010).
