Background: Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, is a Filipino-American singer-songwriter. At age four, Mars began performing five days a week with his family's band, The Love Notes, in which he became known on the island for his impersonation of Elvis Presley. After an unsuccessful stint with Motown Records, Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009.
Discography: Before breaking through as a solo artist, Mars wrote and produced songs for Travie McCoy, Brandy, Sean Kingston, and Adam Levine. He gained prominence as an artist himself when he was featured on B.o.B.'s "Nothin' on You" and McCoy's "Billionaire." He also co-wrote the Cee-Lo Green hit "F*ck You," for which he was nominated for Grammys for Record and Song of the Year. He released his debut album, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans," in October 2010.
