Background: Mulligan is an English actress who lived in Germany for eight years during her childhood. She developed an interest in acting as a teenager after watching her brother in a school production of "The King and I." Despite her parents' disapproval and rejection from several drama schools, she persisted.
Filmography: She made her film debut as one of the Bennet sisters in the 2005 film version of "Pride & Prejudice." She followed that with roles in British productions including "Doctor Who" and the miniseries "Bleak House." Her breakthrough came in 2009 when she played the lead role in "An Education," a film that earned her a BAFTA Award as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In 2010 she appeared in the sci-fi drama "Never Let Me Go," and the sequel "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" alongside Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf. This year she stars in the films "Drive," which won the directing prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and "Shame" opposite Michael Fassbender. Next she will play Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated adaptation of "The Great Gatsby."
