Background: Underwood is a country singer who was born in Oklahoma. She was nearly signed by Capitol Records in 1996, but wasn't after company management changed. She achieved instant success after winning the fourth season of "American Idol."
Discography: After winning "Idol," Underwood released her debut, "Some Hearts," in 2005, spawning a string of hits including "Jesus Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats." "Some Hearts" was certified seven-times platinum by the RIAA and was the best-selling country album of the decade. Her follow-up, "Carnival Ride" (2007) was also a major success, going triple platinum. Her most recent album, "Play On," was released in 2009. To date she is the best-selling artist in "America Idol" history.
