Background: Nolan was born in London, England, the son of an English father and an American mother. He has a younger brother, Jonathan, with whom he often collaborates. His early interest in botany was replaced by an interest in film when he began using his father's Super 8 camera at age seven. He studied English literature at University College London and participated in the university's film society.
Filmography: He directed "Following" in 1998, but his breakthrough came in 2001 with "Memento," for which he earned an Oscar nomination for screenwriting. His subsequent films include "Insomnia" (2002), "Batman Begins" (2005), "The Prestige" (2006), "The Dark Knight" (2008), and "Inception" (2010). His latest film is "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), his third Batman film.
