Background: Danes is an American actress who was born in New York City. After attending the Dalton School and Professional Performing Arts School in New York, she moved to Los Angeles to attend the Lycee Francais. She then went to Yale University for two years before dropping out to pursue an acting career.

Filmography: While still in high school, she appeared on episodes of the TV series "Law and Order" and "Lifestories." That led to a lead role on the ABC drama series "My So-Called Life" for one season. She followed with a film career including "Little Women," "Home for the Holidays," "To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday," "Romeo + Juliet," "The Rainmaker," "U Turn," "Les Miserables," "The Mod Squad," "Brokedown Palace," "Igby Goes Down," "The Hours," Shopgirl," "The Family Stone," "Evening," and "Stardust." She won several awards for the HBO movie "Temple Grandin" and is now starring on the Showtime drama series "Homeland."
