Background: He began acting at age 14 in his native Mexico in the telenovela "Rina" with Ofelia Medina. His first adult role was in the 1982 telenovela "Vivir Enamorada."
Filmography: He alternated between TV and films until 1999 when "Sexo, pudor y lágrimasthen" broke box office records. His American film debut was in Steven Soderbergh's 2008 biopic "Che" as Fidel Castro opposite Bencio del Toro as Che Guevara. He recently featured in "Weeds" as the corrupt mayor of Tijuana.
